Mitsui Aika Is Finally Getting Some Work!

That’s right!

Mitsui is currently in a musical titled Nettai Danshi 2. The play opened at Space Zero in Tokyo on October 12th.

This musical is set 25 years prior to the first musical, and takes place on Ikemen Island, located 1.200 km south of Tokyo.

Construction of an airport on the island leads to a large amount of conflict between those who oppose and those who support the idea. The story is also about friendship, love, and of course, ikemen, two of which are played by Inoue Masahiro and Aoki Tsunenori, who you may recognize from the highly succesful “The Prince of Tennis” musical. Mitsui plays the heroine of the story.

Before the first performance, the three of them attended a press conference for the musical. Mitsui gave comments about her co-actors, “I couldn’t feel any happier. They are really kind to me and true ikemen from within.” She then said with a smile, “I’d be lying if I said I’m not excited to be surrounded by two half-naked ikemen during the play. In fact, I have to be careful not to lose my focus during the performance.”

I couldn’t help but laugh when reading the reports. Her comments are just too funny, and I’m happy to see her being open and honest about her feelings towards her co-actors, as idols often have to be careful of their word choice and what they say to the cameras. I’m really happy to see her doing something as well, because she’s been pretty quiet for a while outside of MCing at concerts. I hope this is a step towards a better solo career, and maybe even a single or album release in the future.

The musical will be running at Space Zero until the 20th.
