Suzuki Airi’s Profile

Suzuki Airi, February 2014

Suzuki passed the Hello! Project kids auditions in 2002 along with 14 other girls. She made her first appearance in the entertainment industry as a member of 4KIDS, a temporary group that appeared in Mini Moni’s movie “Mini Moni ja Movie: Okashi na Daibōken!” which was released in early 2003.

Suzuki was assigned to another temporary group Aa! along with Tanaka Reina from Morning Musume and fellow Hello! Project Kids member Natsuyaki Miyabi later on that same year. On October 29th 2003, they released their only single, First Kiss. Suzuki was 9 years, 6 months and 17 days old by the time of the release and was the youngest lead singer ever on any Hello! Project single.

In late 2004, Suzuki took part in her first Hello! Project shuffle unit, H.P. All Stars, alongside all of H!P at that time. They produced one song, “All for One and One for All” and is considered one of H!P’s theme songs.

In 2005, Suzuki Airi was assigned as a member of Hello! Project group °C-ute alongside seven other Hello! Project Kids members who were not chosen to form Berryz Kobo the year before. Originally °C-ute was releasing on an indie label until 2007 when they made their major debut with their first major single Sakura Chiari on February 21st 2007. They released three singles in this year with Suzuki being the lead vocalist and center focus for all three releases.

She was a member of Little Gatas and was added to Gatas Brilhantes H.P. in April, 2007.

On July 21st 2007, it was announced that Suzuki would participate in a unit named Buono!. With fellow H!P members Tsugunaga Momoko and Natsuyaki Miyabi from Berryz Kobo to sing the opening and ending theme songs for the anime adaption of the Shugo Chara! manga.

In 2009, Suzuki, along with four other members of °C-ute and Berryz Kobo, left the Hello! Project futsal team, Gatas Brilhantes H.P.. The members left of their own violition due to feeling that they could not perform as high level players due to their level of ability.

On March 13, 2009, Suzuki was in a solo commercial that appeared in the Pizza-La website.

C-ute released their 11th major single ‘SHOCK!’, on January 6th 2010.’ The vocals were sung completely by Suzuki, with the other members singing during the chorus and having some small “Ah!” or “Chi!” sounding sounds throughout the song after each chorus. Most fans didn’t like the song for this, and even big Suzuki fans disliked the song, saying it was “Too much Airi” and even making jokes like “Airi featuring C-ute”. This is the only single in C-ute’s history (or H!P’s, besides Morning Musume’s “Furusato” in 1998) where all the solo lines are given to only one member. Tsunku said in his blog that he chose Suzuki because he felt she’d be the best at singing the song with as much emotion as the song needed.
