Yajima Maimi’s Profile

Yajima Maimi, Feburary 2014

Yajima was one of the fifteen children to pass the Hello! Project Kids auditions in 2002. That same year, she made her debut as one of the main roles as an antagonist in the movie Koinu Dan no Monogatari. She joined ZYX that following year, and they released two singles.

Berryz Kobo was created in 2004, with the intention of rotating the kids throughout the unit. Yamija wasn’t chosen in the original eight, and after a while the idea was dropped, leaving the current eight members of Berryz Kobo permanent. In 2005, the H!P Kids left over ending up forming °C-ute. Even though Yajima is the second oldest, she was chosen to be the leader of the group instead of the eldest, Umeda Erika, since Umeda felt she wasn’t mature and responsible enough for the position.

Aside from leading °C-ute, Yajima was also the sub-captain of Little Gatas, the Hello! Project Kids futsal team, before joining Gatas Brilhantes H.P. as a field player. She’s also considered to be one of the fastest runners in all of Hello! Project, often coming first in the running events at the annual sports festivals and listing running as one of her hobbies.

When Murakami Megumi left the group, Yajima took over the role of hosting °C-ute’s weekly radio program, Cutie Party. On November 11th 2007, it was also announced that Yajima would be collaborating on a single with then-Hello! Project soloist Abe Natsumi, a former Morning Musume member, and on January 16th 2008, they released the single 16sai no Koi Nante.

Yajima was chosen to be a member of Hello Project’s new unit High-King, who only released one single, C/C (Cinderella/Complex) in order to promote Morning Musume’s Cinderella Musical. It seems that the group was formed out of H!P’s group’s leaders: Shizumi Saki, Captain of Berryz Kobo; Yajima Maimi, leader of C-ute; Takahashi Ai, leader of Morning Musume; Tanaka Reina, ex-leader of Aa!; and Maeda Yuuka, ex-leader of Shugo Chara! Egg.

Kojina (President of Mirai CO) revealed in his blog that Yajima and Fukuda Kanon would be participating in the movie Fuyu no Kaidan (Winter Ghost Story) on March 11th 2009. The movie hit the theaters on July 25th, 2009. Yajima is the movie’s protagonist, and has the role of “extermining evil spirits/ghosts”.

A manga series called “Black Angels” (by Shinji Hiramatsu) got a straight-to-DVD live-action adaptation in 2011. It stared actor Motoki Ochiai and Yajima. The manga was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 1981 and 1985 and was an action manga about a group of vigilantes delivering justice to evil-doers who had escaped the law. Ochiai played the primary role as Yukito, the leader of the group. Yajima played as Reira, the captivating heroine of the story. Geneon Universal Entertainment released the movie on DVD in May 2011.

Yajima released 2 E-Line Up DVDs, a Froggy doll and A Rainey Day, between August and October 2011. She released another e-Hello DVD in October 2011 titled Imagine Classic. Maimi released her 5th photobook, Tabioto, on November 27th 2011. She also starred in a two-episode series titled Mannique Girls, which started November 17th 2011.

Yajima appeared in the horror movie Ousama Game, with her fellow C-ute members as well as the members of Berryz Kobo, and Dori Sakurada who also starred in Suugaku Joshi Gakuen. The movie is based on the novel of the same name. The movie was released in theaters December 17th 2011.

Alongside several Hello! Project members, Yajima appeared in the comedy drama Suugaku Joshi Gakuen, which ran from January 11, 2012 — March 28, 2012.

On March 3rd 2012, Yajima, along with Suzuki Airi, had an acoustic live shot at the Yokohoma Blitz. The DVD was released June 15th 2012.

Along with Okai Chisato, Suzuki Airi, and Mano Erina, Yajima stared in a stage play titled Theatre in the Round. She appeared in 2 different versions of the stage play (A and B), while Mano appeared solo (D and E), and Suzuki and Okai were only be featured on one of the first 2 versions; A for Okai and B for Suzuki. The stage play ran from May 15th to the 17th 2012.

The sequels to Black Angels, Black Angels 2 (ブラック・エンジェルズ2〜黒木覚醒編〜?) and lack Angels 3 (ブラック・エンジェルズ3〜黒木死闘編〜?) were released straight-to-video on July 4th and August 3, 2012 respectively.

Yajima, along with fellow C-ute member Nakajima Saki, stared in the comedy movie Zomvideo, released December 29, 2012.

It was announced in June that along with Natsuyaki Miyabi, Tokunaga Chinami, Nakajima Saki and Iikubo Haruna that Yajima would be in a new H!P unit titled DIY♡ (Dance In Your Heart) and would release a song titled Forefore ~Forest for Rest~ for the Hello! Pro SATOYAMA movement project.

Yajima, alongside fellow C-ute members Nakajima Saki and Hagiwara Mai and Berryz members Shimizu Saki, Sudo Maasa, Kumai Yurina and Sugaya Risako starred in the first adaption of the Cat’s Eye manga/anime. The group also formed a new unit, Cat’s Eye 7, and sang the theme song for the stage play.

Yajima stared in the stage play Sugar Spot in 2012. She then stared in the stage plays Taklamakan, and Sakura no Hanataba in 2013.

In February 2013, Yajima was announced to be a member of the new unit Mellowquad alongside fellow DIY members Natsuyaki Miyabi and Tokunaga Chinami, as well as fellow C-ute member Okai Chisato, while at a special event for the SATOYAMA Movement.
