High-King

History

High-King was created in 2008. Originally, the group was created for the sole purpose of promotion and support for Morning Musume’s musical, Cinderella the Musical. Because of this, the group was short-lived, but they were also reasonably successful, with their debut single, C/C (Cinderella Complex) peaking at #6 on the Oricon charts. The single was released June 11th, 2008.

The group is made up of leaders of the main H!P groups: Ai Takahashi, Morning Musume’s leader, Berryz Kobo’s Captain Shimizu Saki, leader of °C-ute, Yajima Maimi, and former H!P Egg and former leader of Shugo Chara Egg!, Maeda Yuuka,. Tanaka Reina is also in the group, and although it is said she is not a leader of any group. This isn’t true, since she was once a leader of former group Aa!, as well as being the leader of High-King itself.

Producer Tsunku said the members were chosen for their ability to dance and belt out danceable R&B numbers, adding, “As they’re girls they should really be ‘High Queen’ but it didn’t have enough punch.” He said their debut has a faster beat than anything he’s produced so far.

Besides their two other songs included in the Happy Marrige Song album, High-King has been inactive as a recording group and only appears in concerts.

Since Takahashi Ai graduated from Morning Musume in September 2011 and then Maeda Yuuka graduated from S/mileage on December 31st 2011, the statues of the group is currently unknown.
