Fujimoto Miki’s Profile

Fujimoto started out in 2001 when she was contacted and offered the chance to debut as a soloist, after she was not selected as one of the 4th generation members in 2000, although she made it to the finals. She trained a little over a year before her debut with her first single titled, “Aenai Nagai Nichiyoubi”. ;While training, she worked as a receptionist at UP-FRONT WORKS, according to her Morning Musume x Tsunku 2 interview.

In 2002, Tsunku put Fujimoto together with two other H!P soloists, Goto Maki (who was an ex-Morning Musume member) and Matsuura Aya. Together, they formed the one-shot group, Gomattou, releasing one single.

In 2003, Tsunku made a surprise announcment to add her to Morning Musume as part of the newest 6th generation, after she had ;a successful performance on the Kouhaku Utagassen New Year’s Eve music show, which then ended her solo career. During her years in the group, she slowly moved herself up to become one of the group’s main vocals in singles and album songs. She was added to the Country Musume roster along with 5th generation member ;Konno Asami, going on to release three singles as a part of the group in that same year. When Morning Musume was split into two groups, she was placed in Morning Musume Otome Gumi.

Fujimoto was added to the futsal team Gatas Brilhantes H.P. in February 2004.

In April 2005, Fujimoto became the subleader of Morning Musume, supporting Yoshizawa Hitomi as the new leader, when Yaguchi Mari abruptly resigned from the group.

It was announced that Fujimoto would form a new unit with ;Matsuura Aya ;called GAM. The unit released three singles, their first album in May 2007, and then their first concert tour started on May 26th, 2007.

Yoshizawa Hitomi graduated from Morning Musume on May 6th 2007, handing down the leader position to Fujimoto, with Takahashi Ai taking her former place as subleader.

On May 24, 2007, Fujimoto was rumored to be in the latest edition of the Japanese gossip magazine Friday —the same magazine responsible for the cancellation of Ai Kago’s contract, and Yaguchi Mari’s sudden departure from the group— pictured walking with Tomoharu Shōji, a member of the comedy duo Shinagawa Shōji. Friday explains that they had a two-hour dinner together, drove to Fujimoto’s apartment, then went to the sauna, returning to Shōji’s apartment just after midnight. It soon became apparent that she was to be involved in a scandal that would jeopardize her position in Morning Musume. After seeing the article, Up-Front Agency had no intention to deal with the situation since there was no proof of them dating.

On the May 26, 2007 edition of Young Town Doyōbi (a radio show with Ai Takahashi, Fujimoto and Sanma Akashiya), she confirmed that the pictures were of her, and that she had been going out with Tomoharu Shōji. She also mentioned that she was going to talk to the head of Up-Front Agency, Naoki Yamazaki, about the situation.

On June 1, 2007, Fujimoto followed ;in the footsteps of Yaguchi Mari as she ;resigned from her position in Morning Musume. She remained in Hello! Project as a solo artist, and ;continued to perform in GAM with Matsuura Aya on their 1st tour.

In October 2007 Fujimoto did not participate in the Hello! Project 2008 Winter Concert, and ;there were claims that she ;was still under punishment from the scandal.

It was announced that Fujimoto would release a single entitled “Okitegami”, which was ;a collaboration with fellow Up-Front singer Takao Horiuchi. It ;was released on April 23, 2008, and in June, it was announced that Fujimoto would play the part of Rizzo in the fall musical, Grease.

On March 24, 2009, Fujimoto announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Tomoharu Shōji. Fujimoto graduated from Hello! Project on March 31, 2009, and in August of 2009, Fujimoto was set to perform in Japan Festa in Bangkok. On July 3, Miki and Shoji got ;married, ; and the wedding took place in Hawaii.

On June 2, 2010, Miki had a traffic accident, where she rear-ended a taxi at a stop light. Fortunatly, ;there were no injuries. She posted an apology to everyone on her blog. In September, she joined the unit Afternoon Musume with 7 of her fellow Morning Musume OG members.

On the morning of November 10, 2010, Fujimoto Miki’s father has passed away due to unknown causes in a hospital in Hokkaido. The unexpected news of the death shocked both Fujimoto and her mother. Fujimoto’s mother and father had been living apart.

In 2010, it was announced that Fujimoto will be joining other former-Morning Musume members for the new group “Dream Morning Musume”

Obsessive Fans:

Fujimoto possesses an extensive fan base, which includes a group of people generally deemed “Mowota”, an abbreviation of Morning Musume Otaku, who, while not literally worshipping her, often go to more extreme behaviors to display their affection towards Fujimoto. This group, called “Tokai Woters”, generally performs a fixed choreography at concerts and on certain TV occasions. This choreography, carried to the sound of Miki’s Romantic Ukare Mode, involves a series of moves accompanied by their chanting “Mikitty!” four times, which is then followed by “Miki-sama! Miki-sama, please punish me!” (美貴様美貴様お仕置きキボンヌ, Miki-sama Miki-sama oshioki kibonnu). It is also said that they send her a lot of mail, and Fujimoto often says she enjoys getting “Miki-sama mail”.

On September 12, 2011, it was confirmed that Fujimoto is pregnant with her first child, due in the spring of 2012. Because of this, she didn’t participate in DMM’s final concert tour.

Outside of her career as a performer, Miki has opened a chain of yakiniku restaurants in Japan. The first Yakinuku Mikitei opened on February 26, 2011 (her 26th birthday), and has been successful—three more restaurants have opened.

On March 27th, Fujimoto gave birth to her first child. The name took a while to decide, and in April the couple announced they baby’s name to be Toranosuke. Here’s the reason for the baby’s name:

It was her husband who thought of it. They wanted to keep an old traditional name as there are so many new and “hip” names for kids these days.
