JunJun’s Profile

Li Chun (later known as JunJun) participated in a singing competition known as Super Girl in China in 2006, and made it into the top 50, but did not win. After being eliminated from the competition, Japanese producer Tsunku contacted her (along with other Super Girl contestants who did not win), and held an audition for Morning Musume in Beijing, China. This secret audition was held pretty quietly, even the girls themselves did not know what they were auditioning for.

On March 15, Li Chun (along with Qian Lin, later known as Lin Lin) was officially announced to be chosen to join the eighth generation of all-girl J-pop group Morning Musume as a “foreign exchange student,” and was given the nickname JunJun as her stage name in Japan. Tsunku stated that he believed that she and Qian Lin would be key for Morning Musume’s planned expansion into Asia in 2007.

Three days after the announcement, on March 18, JunJun and LinLin made their Japanese television debut on Morning Musume’s TV show Hello! Morning, and within the same week, she moved to Tokyo, Japan. Her first appearance on stage took place during Morning Musume leader Yoshizawa Hitomi’s graduation concert on May 6, 2007 at Saitama Super Arena, where she and LinLin were introduced as the new members of the group.

In 2008 it was announced that Morning Musume would collaborate with the female theatre group Takarazuka to perform a musical, revealed to be Cinderella the Musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The musical opened on the 8th of August, 2008. JunJun took on the role of a Page and a Princess during the production.

In 2009, it was announced that Morning Musume would attend the annual event Anime Expo, taking place in Los Angeles, California from July 2nd to the 5th of 2009. The then-current line-up, including JunJun, attended the event as Guests of Honor. Morning Musume held an autograph session (the first time ever for the group to give autographs in person) and held a 1.5 hour concert at the convention’s main event hall. The number of fans that attended the event was over 7,000 people.

Later that year, Tsunku formed shuffle units for the Hello! Project Champuru album that were meant to be revivals of former Hello! Project groups. JunJun was chosen to be part of the 3-person unit Zoku・v-u-den (続・美勇伝), based on the sexy group v-u-den, along with Michishige Sayumi and Sugaya Risako.

On May 16 2010, JunJun and LinLin announced they would be performing with Natsuyaki Miyabi and former Morning Musume member Kusumi Koharu in Shanghai as a special 4-person unit. On June 2, the unit’s name was revealed to be Ex-Ceed, and the group performed in Shanghai on June 22nd and 23rd of the same year.

It was later announced by Tsunku on August 8th, 2010 that JunJun would graduate from Morning Musume and from Hello! Project along with fellow Chinese 8th Gen member LinLin, and 6th Gen member Kamei Eri.

A quote from Tsunku (translated on Morning Musume’s official MySpace page):
About the graduation of JunJun and LinLin, 8th generation members (foreign students).
In March 2007, both of them joined Morning Musume as foreign students and today, while being skilled singers and entertainers, they also greatly improved their Japanese proficiency and they are now grown-up women. This is why I took the decision to graduate both of them at the same time as Kamei Eri on the last day of the Morning Musume’s Autumn 2010 concert tour.
After graduation, they will enter a period of preparation before focusing on their singers and entertainer career in China.

Junjun, Lin Lin, and Eri’s graduations was held on December 15, 2010. Junjun sang “Furusato” for her departure

In late August 2011, she was announced to be casting in a Chinese school-life movie “Love for a Second” and in early September 2011, she was discovered be now enrolling in the famous Beijing Film Academy studying Performance Arts.
