Lin Lin’s Profile

History

When Qian Lin (later known as LinLin) was in the second grade of elementary school in 1999, she was scouted by a local television station, and since then she has been active in the entertainment industry, appearing in many television dramas as well taking on the role of host in other shows.

Through the recommendation of a friend, Tsunku recruited Qian Lin to join Hello! Project on a trainee level under Hello Pro Eggs. Because she was not introduced nor given a profile on the website, fans referred to her as the Mysterious Pony-tailed Girl.

On March 15, Qian Lin (along with Li Chun) was officially announced to be chosen to join the eighth generation of all-girl J-pop group Morning Musume as a “foreign exchange student,” and was given the nickname LinLin as her stage name in Japan. After seeing her perform at concerts, Tsunku was impressed and stated that he believed that she and Li Chun (nicknamed JunJun) would be key for Morning Musume’s planned expansion into Asia in 2007.

Three days after the announcement, on March 18, JunJun and LinLin made their Japanese television debut on Morning Musume’s TV show Hello! Morning and within the same week, she moved to Tokyo, Japan. Her first appearance on stage took place during Morning Musume leader Yoshizawa Hitomi’s graduation concert on May 6, 2007 at Saitama Super Arena, where she and Jun Jun were introduced as the new members of the group.

In 2008 it was announced that Morning Musume would collaborate with the female theatre group Takarazuka to perform a musical, revealed to be Cinderella the Musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The musical opened on the 8th of August, 2008. LinLin took on the role of a Page and a Princess during the production.

In 2009, it was announced that Morning Musume would attend the annual event Anime Expo, taking place in Los Angeles, California from July 2nd to the 5th of 2009. The then-current line-up, including LinLin, attended the event as Guests of Honor. Morning Musume held an autograph sessions (the first time ever for the group to give autographs in person) and held a 1.5 hour concert at the convention’s main event hall. The number of fans that attended the event was over 7,000 people.

Later that year, Tsunku formed shuffle units for the Hello! Project Champuru album that were meant to be revivals of former Hello! Project groups. Tsunku announced on his blog that LinLin would become the leader of Shin Minimoni, based on the group Minimoni that was mega-popular with kids several years prior. The other members of Shin Minimoni were Fukuda Kanon of S/mileage, as well as Hello Pro Egg youngsters Takeuchi Akari and Miyamoto Karin.

On May 16 2010, JunJun and LinLin announced they would be performing with Natsuyaki Miyabi and former Morning Musume member Kusumi Koharu in Shanghai as a special 4-person unit. On June 2, the unit’s name was revealed to be Ex-Ceed, and the group performed in Shanghai on June 22nd and 23rd of the same year.

It was later announced by Tsunku on August 8th, 2010 that LinLin would graduate from Morning Musume and from Hello! Project along with fellow Chinese 8th Gen member, JunJun and 6th Gen member Kamei Eri.

A quote from Tsunku (translated on Morning Musume’s official MySpace page):
About the graduation of JunJun and LinLin, 8th generation members (foreign students).
In March 2007, both of them joined Morning Musume as foreign students and today, while being skilled singers and entertainers, they also greatly improved their Japanese proficiency and they are now grown-up women. This is why I took the decision to graduate both of them at the same time as Kamei Eri on the last day of the Morning Musume’s Autumn 2010 concert tour.
After graduation, they will enter a period of preparation before focusing on their singers and entertainer career in China.

Linlin’s graduation was held on December 15, 2010.

LinLin was set to be on a new show, titled Life’s Big Explosion. The series was broadcasted live so that all of her fans around the world could watch, and ran for 5 episodes Saturdays and Sundays at 7pm.
